The Engine is running
Threw the wheels on a couple of days ago and went to start it but no good. It chugged away slowly for 10 seconds with full throttle then died. I found out that I had to adjust the tappets which fixed the problem. All the cars I have worked on had hydraulic lifters so no idea this had to be done.
It then started first go and sounds strong. Massive relief to know that I have changed all the gaskets from the block up, painted it all, had the head ported, shaved and bigger inlet valves, new K&N air filter, LCB exhaust manifold and transferred it all to my shell including the complete wiring harness and it kicked over.

The brakes and clutch have now been bled and work great. All the wiring behind the dash is finished. The A/C works, installed an alarm with central locking and keyless entry. Also completed the wiring for a 2 maybe 4 speaker stereo system with subwoofer along with a fully integrated Bluetooth kit.
When I painted the car, we had to give it one coat of grey as an undercoat which ended up leaving lines in the door jams, bonnet and boot surrounds. I have spent all this week after work sanding them back down so I can repaint them. Nothing worse than having a nice paint job then opening the doors to see a grey line or look of overspray. I also got a bit carried away when I was sanding the body back to get rid of the orange peel and took the paint off on the RHF guard. All paint should be good by the end of the weekend.
Full steam ahead once the paint is completed.

Painting on the weekend went well. Much happier that I did it as it was bothering me. Just need to sand back the clear of the patched up area so it blends into the rest of the panel. The door jams are all good now. No sanding required thanks to blending thinners and the great work of my brother Juzza.
While the paint was drying I put the boot handle and number plate lights back on the boot lid.

Installed the dash on Monday night (21/3/11) and hit a problem. When the plug in the back of the dash is plugged in the engine will not turn off when the key is turned off and taken out of the ignition. Spent the last three nights working on it and still don’t have the answer.
I tried my old dash cluster and it didn’t fix the problem so I know it is not the cluster. I am pretty sure that there is a back feed of power to the ignition from somewhere which is causing the problem.
So, instead of wasting too much more time on it I installed the dash anyway along with the steering column and other relevant accessories like the radio. I will hopefully sort the wiring issue out at a later time. In the meantime I have to disconnect the battery to turn the car off. Oh well, at least the dash looks good.

I had a week off work starting on the 28th March and got heaps done. Had the interior re upholstered and installed by Mussy from Mussy’s Motor Trimming. Looks great
Installed the windows, rear bumper, front bumper, grille, driving lights, LH headlamp, bonnet & doors. I added central locking to the car too so had to create a set up in the door for the actuator to work.
All in all it works great and looks great.

Bought a Subwoofer to go with the rest of the audio system. If you thought the boot was small before well now there is no room.
The sub was supplied with a enclosed box but I had to modify it to get it in the boot.
