1961 Morris mini project
Seeing as everyone seems to be building a VTEC mini these days I thought it was time for a change. In my mind I wanted something different and of course if I'm going to the effort in changing then I might as well go a bit extreme and build something that has potential for power upgrades down the track.
On that note, I sold my VTEC mini to another mini fan who was keen to have one that was already built, engineered and road legal.
While it was up for sale my mind went on it usual tangent of what to do next. Back in the day I had a 99 Subaru WRX GC8 and at that time it was a real weapon and the power to weight ratio was outstanding. Being AWD it also handled like it was on rails. It was after a little reminiscing about the WRX I thought.......why not challenge myself to combining my two favourite vehicles. The WRX & the Classic mini
Early May 2020 I purchased this October 1961 built Morris mini 850. It had a 12 month old 1100 put into it with remote gear change and a 4 speed syncro box.
After driving the VTEC mini, the Morris mini kind of drove like crap to be honest. I guess all these years made me a little complacent about how good my mini really was.
Here are some photos of it when it was purchased. A real classic! !! Shame...... he he
Also was the first time I owned two minis albeit not for long.
